The first settlers arrived in Eldridge in 1840 and were Scotch and Irish Presbyterians.
In 1846, Jacob M. Eldridge moved from Philadelphia to Davenport and purchased land north of Davenport from the U.S government for $1.25 per acre. Other immigrants from Schleswig, Germany and Holstein arrived in the Scott Country area.
