Christmas is more than a day in December
It's all of those things that we love to remember
It's carolers singing familiar refrains
Bright colored stockings and shiny toy trains
Streamers of tinsel and glass satin balls
Laughter that rings through the house and its halls
Christmas is more than a day in December
Its the magic and the love
That we'll always remember

Happy Holidays to our Grand Haven Family!!

Spotlight on Senior: Karen Joanne “Wilson” Auliff

Our Senior on Spotlight features Karen Joanne “Wilson” Auliff.  Karen grew up on a farm ½ mile north of Interstate 80 on Middle Road.  Karen’s father was a farmer and then late in life he was an Insurance Salesman and her mother a Homemaker. Karen has 3 brothers and she recalls how much fun they had in the “Lincoln Go Getters” 4-H Club.  Karen and her brothers went to school in a one room School House called Bar School Lincoln #1 where they had to walk 1 ½ miles.Karen met her husband, Robert, in High School and they were married in 1955.  Karen and Robert lived on his family farm where they milked cows until 1973. Karen LOVED milking cows. Karen and Robert had 5 children together, Joe, Pete, John, Peggy and Kelly.  In 1973 they sold the land but still lived in the farm house. After Robert quit farming he managed Twin States Liquid Grow in Eldridge and Karen was a rural mail carrier for LeClaire for 25 years.Through Robert’s work he would win trips.  She has lots of memories on the many trips they went on which include Europe, Barbados, Aruba and the island of Masa, just to name a few.  Karen’s fond memories with her children would be working on the farm, gardening and playing baseball in the backyard. Karen lost her husband (Robert)  in 2004 and she also lost a son (John) in a car accident in 2009. Karen has 9 Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 3 Step Grandchildren.  Karen loved when they came to visit on the farm because she had a John Deere Gator and would take them on rides.  Karen loved just talking to them and hearing everything they are doing. Karen loves the food here at Grand Haven.  She doesn’t cook anymore so it’s nice to know the food is ready here all the time.   Karen also likes it when they do flower arranging.
